Description
The successful Siege of Vicksburg by Union General Ulysses S. Grant in 1863 saw the capture of the last Confederate stronghold on the Mississippi River, effectively splitting the Confederacy in half. It was a huge turning point in the war, and a National Military Park and cemetery was constructed to commemorate the battle.
This brochure of the battlefield was issued in 1953 by the National Park Service and includes a map, photographs, and brief description of the campaign.
