Description
This rudimentary map of the United States was prepared in October 1945 by the Army Information Branch as a publication in the NEWSMAP series. NEWSMAPS were issued weekly both domestically and overseas to different branches of the U.S. Armed Forces to keep members informed of ongoing events in the global conflict.
The postwar image highlights the composition of the Veteran’s Administration across the contiguous 48 states. Various facilities are noted according to the two keys in the lower right, while an organizational chart in the lower left presents ‘The Administrative Setup.’ Text in the lower center outlines the benefits guaranteed to millions of veterans, thanks to the G.I. Bill of Rights. The verso presents a relief map of Sumatra and the Malay States that was originally issued in 1944. Transportation routes are overlaid, including ‘Jeepable’ paths.
