Description
This promotional map of Florida heavily emphasizes the historic and exotic nature of the state; featuring numerous illustrations of native Americans, sailing ships, and local wildlife. Sea monsters, a decorative compass rose and an elaborate title cartouche, elements inspired by maps from 16th and 17th centuries, also contribute to the antiquarian theme.
Though the aesthetic is old, the information is up to date, and encourages tourism to Florida’s many attractions. Different colored crosses identify five categories; Historic Sites & Memorials, National & State Parks, Gardens & Zoos, Museums & Art Galleries, and Miscellaneous Attractions.
An index is attached to the verso and provides additional information and a summary of each location. Published in 1968 by the Florida Power and Light Company.
