Description

This double-sided lithographed map was published in Chicago by George Cram in 1883. One side presents a detailed overview of Utah Territory, while the verso shows Nevada. Bright red color outlines each state, while individual counties within are demarcated in green. Railroads, the primary catalyst for growth in the decades following the Civil War, are shown as black lines.

A fascinating variety of geographic features, settlements, forts, natural resources, and other locations of interest are labeled throughout the image. Topography is depicted in hachure and numerous mountain peaks, passes, deserts, and ranges are named. Population statistics list the number of residents at 62,266 (Nevada) and 143,963 (Utah). A neat snapshot of these two Southwestern states during the early 1880s.
