Description
This anonymous watercolor painting, done on ‘J. Whatman’ watermarked paper, presents a small child with hands held in prayer. Rays of light burst forth from a dark and gloomy background, illuminating the fair hair and skin. Mrs. Robinson is faintly written in pencil on the back, but it is uncertain if that’s the name of the artist or the adult name of the subject.
Though a fun connection, the figure is actually entirely unlikely to be the inspiration for Simon and Garfunkel’s hit song, which was originally supposed to be Mrs. Roosevelt.
