Description

This lovely bird’s eye view of the Notre Dame University campus in South Bend, Indiana was published in 1963, just a few months after Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. made a public speech at the Stepan Center. A numerical listing and alphabetical index identify nearly eighty separate buildings across campus, with construction dates accompanying the former. Recent construction includes the Notre Dame Memorial Library and the Radiation Research Building.

Text and photographs on the verso provide additional information on many of the university’s historic structures and modern facilities. “The University of Notre Dame, once an obscure school in the northern Indiana wilderness, has become in little more than a century a great institution of higher learning, recognized the world over for the high caliber of its teaching, research, and public service.”
