A friendly overview of the area around UIC.

Local cuisine, historic folklore, and iconic architecture across Chicago’s Near West Side are celebrated on this fun-filled pictorial map, designed by Janice Rajecki (artist portrait, lower right) and published by the University of Illinois at Chicago in 1982.

The UIC Campus is highlighted in bright green (along with Lake Michigan, oddly), and various landmarks and local features are depicted cartoonishly. Of notable interest are the Blues Brothers (released in 1980), the Circle Interchange, Greektown, Navy Pier (hilariously misplaced), and the contentious Christopher Columbus statue in Arrigo Park.
