This interesting  game known as a volvelle was popular in the 20’s and 30’s as an alternative method for teaching geographic facts about the United States. The wheel was spun to select a state on the outer edge (48 plus D.C.), and cutouts would display information related to that state such as population, highest point, principal river, and the capital. One of the many teaching innovations dreamed up to capture the interest and attention of schoolchildren in the 20th century.
