Description

This densely packed map shows the American occupation zone in Germany, except for several enclaves in the northern part of the country. It was distributed as part of a military circular by the U.S. European Command (EUCOM) in October 1948, less than a year before the occupation would officially end and the Federal Republic of Germany was established.

A base map, dated 1944, has been overprinted in heavy black ink. Various political boundaries, both German and Allied, are noted according to the multiple legends, which identify features of the base map in addition to the contemporary overlays. Military post headquarters and ‘exempt air force stations with community responsibility’ are labeled.
