Description

This pictorial overview of the Pacific Theater was drawn by Frank Martinez, Jr. and published around 1942 to promote Gebhardt’s Chili con Carne. The optimistic map shows numerous bases such as Guam and Wake Island still in American hands, despite their capture in late 1941 by the Japanese.

Small illustrations highlight Allied military might and a population table in the upper left quantifies the comfortable numerical advantage over the Axis powers. The reader is boldly reminded to “Buy U.S. Defense Bonds and Stamps” and that “Food Will Help Win the War.”
