Description

This brightly colored bit of cartographic propaganda was published in the early 1970s by the Motor Vehicle Manufacturer’s Association of the United States, Inc. The bold claim that ‘Trucks and buses serve America’ is supported by thirty captioned images outlining the various ways that trucks serve leisure and work across a breadth of industries.

A simple outline map of the U.S. (plus Alaska & Hawaii) is filled with illustrated vignettes of the produce, industrial exports, and manufactured goods that are shipped regularly across America’s highways. Additional text boxes emphasize the relative safety, extensive research & design, tax benefits, and work efficiency of trucks.
