Description
This beautiful promotional poster for the London Underground shows the interior of the Tube, ample and well-lit with electric bulbs. Well-dressed riders, bedecked in furs, three-piece suits, and elegant hats, relax along suspiciously spacious aisles. Open windows reflect the inevitable heat of the cramped and crowded compartments, though the luxuries of London’s iconic shopping district justify some temporary discomfort.
The sheet was originally issued in 1908 by Johnson, Riddle, & Company, Ltd. As noted by text along the lower edge, it was later reprinted for London Transport as an official Historic Poster
