Description
This punchy pictorial map offers an interesting look at U.S. Highway 2, running from Michigan’s Upper Peninsula to Everett, Washington, on the Puget Sound. The ‘trip’ is divided into five strip maps, each featuring lighthearted vignettes that visually describe local attractions and recreations. Connecting routes are noted, along with small numbers that reference attractions listed on the verso. T
he brochure’s artwork can be attributed to Chuck Stiles, whose name appears at least twice in the accompanying illustrations. Stiles, a native of North Dakota, was a decorated WWII veteran who attended the American Academy of Art in Chicago and became popular for his long-running cartoon series, ‘Ed and Emma.’ Published in the late 1950s (the new Mackinack Bridge, 1957, is referenced on the verso) by the U.S. Highway 2 Association, with offices in Duluth, MN and Williston, ND. Printed by the Williston Herald Company.
