[Transportation Map of Tokyo Area]

First edition American Army road map of the area around Tokyo.

This simple transportation map was published in June 1946 by the Eighth U.S. Army Printing Plant at the Boonjudo Publishing Works in Japan. It presents the various roads available to travelers (primarily American soldiers on occupation duty) across Tokyo and the surrounding suburbs. Street surfaces range from single gravel lanes to double-laned hard-surface highways. Distances between points are noted in red. Diagrams on the verso offer generalized directions to other nearby cities.
