Description
From Trails to Turnpikes is a small booklet that was put together by the Research Department of the Ford Motor Company and published at its headquarters in Dearborn, Michigan in 1960. It was issued as part of The American Road, a historical series of self-promotional material published by the leading car manufacturer in the United States (at the time).
The booklet unfolds to present a series of fifteen illustrations which catalog the development of the road system from Native American trails into modern day interstate highways. Brief historical descriptions of each, littered with Ford advertisements, can be found on the verso. This side also includes photographs of the brands’ most famous vehicles, from the Model A of 1903 to a sleek 1960 Thunderbird.
