Town Plan of Orleans

An American copy of an English copy of a French map of Orleans.

This city plan of Orleans, France highlights the town’s transportation system and the outline of many of its major buildings in red ink. Other important locations, mostly churches, are depicted with finely illustrated profile views. Also of interest are the small numbers visible along many of the prominent streets, which indicate the number of houses. A street index referencing the map’s grid comprises the border.

The map was printed by the United States Army Europe (USAREUR) in 1954, and appears to be a direct copy of the original map designed by the British War Office in 1944. This, in turn, is credited as being copied from an earlier French map.
