Description
This ephemeral road map was published in Columbus, Georgia by the Highway Map Publishing Company in 1956 to aid motorists traveling along U.S. Route 11 between Harrisburg, Pennsylvania to New Orleans, Louisiana. The centerfold image breaks the highway into four simple strip maps, each of which labels locations of interest, provides distances between points, and highlights local features with pictorial vignettes.
Numbered boxes correspond to the advertisements listed on either side, providing a fascinating contemporary snapshot of local businesses along the route. The verso presents a comprehensive mileage chart of major points along U.S. 11, an H.M. Gousha map of the U.S. that highlights the highway in red, additional advertisements, and seals/brief summaries for each of the nine states traversed by the road.
