Description

This wonderful album of images from the Columbian Exposition was published in St. Louis in 1893 by the C.B. Woodward Company. There is a heavy emphasis on the architecture of “The White City,” designed largely by Daniel Burnham Root, as well as the fair grounds, which were planned by Fredrick Law Olmsted.

The photographs were taken by C.D. Arnold and H.D. Higginbotham, who possibly had access to the fairgrounds prior to its official opening on May 1, 1893. The hordes of crowds that descended upon the fair, over 25 million in total, are notably absent from many of the photos.
