Description

This fun ‘historic’ map of the United States features characters from one of the most popular and influential comic strips of all time. Charles Schulz illustrated Peanuts from 1950 until his death in 2000, ultimately publishing nearly 18,000 individual strips in over 2,600 newspapers nationwide. The partnership with MetLife began in 1985 as an effort by the company to be more approachable and friendly, and the characters would be featured prominently in advertising commercials, radio ads, and even on the MetLife blimp. The company ended the relationship with Peanuts in 2016, with the sale of its life insurance business and a transition to focusing on corporate clients.

This colorful map features several of the Peanuts most popular characters – Charlie Brown, Snoopy, Lisa, Woodstock, and Peppermint Patty – taking place in major events throughout the history of the United States. The illustrations found within each state reflect the contemporary public perception, such as cotton and the Confederate flag in Alabama, gold mines in Colorado, and cheese in Wisconsin. The image is an amusing, though somewhat inaccurate and stereotypical, depiction of the United States published by one of the largest insurance providers in the world.
