Description

This ‘diary’ template was originally published in 1942 by E.W. Burke in Macon, Georgia. It served as a commemorative souvenir for new recruits into the U.S. Army, and this particular example was customized by Francis Xavier Bergin of Waterbury, Connecticut.

Dates and location of his training and embarkation are listed on the right side, while a photograph of the strapping young man is pasted on the left. While a part of the 3rd Army in the E.T.O., Francis was awarded a Bronze Star with two clusters. He passed away at the age of 84 on February 6, 2005. A note if Mr. Bergin’s extended family finds this listing – please contact me and I will ship the item to you, free of charge.
