Description
This vibrant colored map of Southeast Asia was originally drawn by staff artist Harold Wilson and copyrighted in 1968 by the Des Moines Register and Tribune Company. This example was licensed for re-issue by the St. Louis Globe Democrat. It was presumably issued as a geographic reference for subscribers interested in the rapidly escalating events of the Vietnam War.
An index in the border helps to find the unfamiliar toponyms. The Tet Offensive early that year was repulsed with heavy casualties, but it shocked the American public and contradicted official claims that the war was nearing a favorable conclusion.
