Description
This fascinating and scarce print block, dated 1973 in the lower corner, was used to create a map of the campus of the University of Iowa – possibly as a part of a visitor’s guide or student orientation publication. Dozens of buildings are outlined and numbered across the expansive grounds, located in Iowa City. An adjacent key identifies 77 major buildings, including Kinnick Stadium, Macbride Hall, and the Old Capitol (pictured, upper right). Of particular interest is the recently completed Hancher Auditorium, a state-of-the-art performing arts center. Just a few years prior to the issue, Iowa was the first state university to recognize the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender, and Allied Union.
