Description

This artfully sketched view of Chicago presents the campus of the University of Chicago front and center, adjacent to the Midway Plaisance of Columbian Exposition fame. Buildings are faithfully illustrated and labeled across university grounds and in the broader Hyde Park neighborhood. As one travels further north, towards the Loop, Chicago landmarks like Comiskey Park, Soldier Field, the Picasso Statue, and Adler Planetarium become more stylized and geographically vague.

The image is apparently uncredited to any artist, though a small accompanying paper slip indicates the poster was given away as a Christmas gift by Barbara and John Boyer (the latter was the Dean of the College at the University of Chicago), probably in the late 1990s. Surprisingly, the map is quite scarce and unlisted in WorldCat as of January 2025.
