The Union Pacific West
$75.00
Stylized map of the American west issued as promotional material for the Union Pacific Railroad.
Description
This is an abstract representation of the Union Pacific rail network, west of St. Charles and Kansas City, Missouri. The actual route and scale are not to form, but the emphasis of the map is not on cartographic accuracy; but rather on promoting the myriad of vacation locations available in the American West.
Illustrations of major attractions like the Redwood Empire, Death Valley, Crater Lake and Garden of the Gods are depicted as being just a short trip away on one of the multiple U.P. lines running throughout the region. A more realistic inset map showing connections to major railroads in the east is provided in the upper right corner, and the verso contains photographs, travel information, and the locations of the U.P. regional offices.
