The Union Pacific West [Western Wonderlands]

The Union Pacific bringing the ‘Jet Age’ to railroading.

This brightly colored map of the American West was issued in 1958 to promote the lines of the Union Pacific Railroad. Like many railroads in the mid-20th century, the U.P. faced increasing competition from commercial air travel and private automobiles. The brochure emphasizes the numerous parks, historic sites, and landmarks available to passengers aboard the Union Pacific, with lines running west from Omaha and Kansas City. The verso uses text and color photographs to highlight the luxurious amenities and gorgeous landscapes.
