This dense, but surprisingly legible, map shows an immense amount of information regarding the history, landscape, and transportation throughout California, Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, and Utah. There is a key to the routes of nearly 25 explorers from Francisco de Ulloa in 1539 to John C. Fremont in 1844 as well as colored lines of railways, roads, and flight paths.
Scores of captions throughout the map reference historical events and important buildings, while the decorative border is filled with scenes of regional attractions and state seals. Credits to the cartographer, researcher, designer, geographer, editor, printer, and publisher can all be found on the sheet – a lot of work went into making these impressive maps! Published in 1940 by the National Geographic Society.
