Description
The Lafayette Highway Association was one of dozens of organizations that sprang up along the well traveled tourist routes from north to south. Different techniques were used by these groups to promote various highways, or combinations thereof. Lists of attractions, descriptions of scenery and availability of amenities were all used liberally in such promotional material, usually sponsored by local businesses or chambers of commerce.
This particular example highlights U.S. Highway 1 and U.S. Highway 15 as “The shortest route” from north to south. Mileage tables on the verso of the sheet add authority to the publisher’s claim, while stamps call out Waterboro, South Carolina as one possible stop for a traveler headed south.
