Description
This color lithographed map of eastern Asia was published in 1904 as part of Fredrick William Ungers, “Russia and Japan and a Complete History of the War in the Far East”. It presents the theater of war for the largely one-sided conflict between Japan and Russia that was fought over rival regional imperial ambitions between Feb. 1904 and Sept. 1905.
Photographs of the monarchs of the belligerents, Tsar Nicholas II and Emperor Mutsu-Hito, can be seen in the upper left and lower right, respectively. Railroads, treaty ports, and territorial occupational colors are outlined in the legend. An interesting image for the armchair generals in the United Kingdom.
