Description
The Historia Saracenica was first written in the 13th century by Jirjis al-Makin Ibn al-‘Amid (anglicized as George Elmacin), a Coptic Christian born in Egypt. The volume covers the history of the Saracens from the life of Muhammed to the reign of Sultan Baibars (called Atabaceus). It was translated into Latin by Thomas Erpenius at Leiden in 1625, and an abridged version was included a year later in Purchas, His Pilgrimes by Samuel Purchas. This is the title page to that section of the five-volume travel set, which was published in London in 1626.
