Description
This diminutive, but vibrant map, presents the epic journey of the 20th Combat Engineer regiment during the Second World War. Though the unit’s training in Fort Benning, Georgia and debarkation from the United States are omitted from the image, it still captures an incredible trek across thousands of miles of desert, countryside, forest, and water.
During the war, the 20th Engineers were assigned variously to the Third and First Infantry Divisions and participated in dozens of battles in North Africa, Sicily, and across Europe, including a D-Day landing on Omaha Beach. What is not shown are the various duties employed by the engineers, unsung heroes in their role of military police, cargo hauler, minefield sweeper, and much more.
