Description

This interesting sheet outlines the approximate number of adherents to different religions during the 1880s. The bar graph to the left lists the various denominations across America in order from smallest (Six Principle Baptists) to the largest (Roman Catholic). Adjacent is a pie chart that shows the respective totals for major international religions.

The sheet was edited by Loomis T. Palmer and originally issued as page 26 in the 1887 edition of Gaskell’s New and Complete Family Atlas. The volume, published in Chicago by Fairbanks & Palmer Publishing, featured maps by cartographer George Cram.
