Description
This effective political map of the Middle East, credited to Jack Jordan and the Associated Press, was published in a January 1991 issue of the Chicago Sun-Times. The image is focused on the Arabian Peninsula and the surrounding nations, approximately outlining the theater of the ongoing Gulf War. Saddam Hussein’s refusal to withdraw from Kuwait led to an American-led bombing campaign against Iraq known as Operation Desert Storm. This was followed by a massive ground assault in February and Kuwait’s successful liberation by the end of the month.
