The Outlands

The Outlands – the center of the Great Wheel of the Outer Plains.

This fantastical map presents a pictorial overview of the Outlands, a central mythological realm in the Planescape campaign setting. It is a realm of rolling hills and temperate countryside that acts as the center of the Great Wheel cosmology, connecting to all other Outer Planes via 16 “gate-towns”. Various features are labeled, all surrounding the central Spire, topped by the Sigil.

Tactical Studies Rules (TSR) was founded in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, in 1973 by Gary Gygax and Don Kaye to publish their wargames, quickly pivoting to focus on their groundbreaking tabletop role-playing game, Dungeons & Dragons. The immense success of D&D in the late 1970s transformed the small company into a major force in the hobby game industry, leading to rapid expansion, a wide range of new products, and the launch of iconic fantasy campaign settings like Dragonlance, Ravenloft, and Forgotten Realms.
