Description

This fascinating view, looking across the Ohio River towards Cincinnati, captures the majesty of the newly completed John A. Roebling Suspension Bridge, the longest such structure in the world at the time. Ongoing construction on the Kentucky side of the river is evident, while billowing smoke and numerous riverboats capture the frenetic industrial energy of Queen City. The print was originally published in New York as part of the February 29, 1868 issue of Harper’s Weekly.
