Description

This lovely pictorial map highlights the significance of the Mississippi River in the development and historical identity of the United States. The course of the mighty river between Cairo and New Orleans is shown using a simplified, stylized set of contrasting lines, while 23 separate illustrations surround the negative space. Corresponding explanations are provided at the bottom of the sheet.

The map was designed by W. Kirtman Plummer for publication in the March 1949 issue of Holiday magazine.
