Description

This charming and rare book provides an illustrated adventure through the upside-down world of Fairy-land. Young Dickey and Gwen are led to a variety of fantastical places by Elf-man, a spritely guide who speaks in rhyming verse. Soaring on the back of Mother Goose, sailing aboard a fleet of paper boats, afternoon tea with the Fairy Queen, and a brief visit to Mr. Hare’s Abode are just a few of the exciting activities experienced by the children.

No adventure is complete without a map, and the book includes four. Single page maps show The Wood made famous by Little Red Riding Hood, Wondershop Town, and the Witch’s Garden. A wonderful fold-out map near the front shows the entirety of Fairyland, “a country of strange and wonderful places, fairies, witches, dragons, & giants.”

Written by May Byron and illustrated by Alan Wright. Published in London in 1909 by Henry Frowde and Hodder & Stoughton.
