Description
This charming promotional pamphlet was designed and issued by the city of Crandon, Wisconsin to draw in motor tourists from the urban metropolis of Chicago. The introductory pages provide a hypothetical conversation in which a Business Man, driving a ‘high-powered, touring car…from the maelstrom of the city [arrives] in search of Nature’s Temple, where the storms of human strife are stilled.”
Such peace and tranquility could be found in Forest County, Wisconsin. A stylized strip map shows ‘The Fishing Route’ from Chicago along the bottom of the following pages, with a centerfold map of “The Queen of our Northern Woods.” Seventy-seven different locations are noted within the image, including many merchants who undoubtedly contributed to finance the publication. Photographs of the abundant fishing, natural wildlife, and tranquil scenery in the region fill up the remaining pages.
