[The Leisurely Route]

With the development of the Interstate Highway System, state highways could no longer boast about the shortest or fastest route from point A to point B. Undaunted, The Highway Map Publishing Company issued this map of the “Leisurely Route” from Canada to Florida along U.S. 15 and U.S. 17. The route is broken into four separate panels, each of which is flanked by local advertisements and likely sponsors of the publishing company.

On the verso of the sheet is a largely obsolete highway map of the United States showing the road system from 1955 – apparently one technique to maintain motorists along these routes was to deny the existence of competing avenues all together!
