Description

This colorfully illustrated map of the Korean peninsula offers a somewhat simplistic overview of the Korean War, in commemoration of the conflict’s 50th anniversary. Major operations and important events are transposed atop a basic relief map, with several captioned vignettes to add to the action. The military prowess and operational complexity of the United Nations Forces are represented by illustrations of the numerous types of soldiers (background in blue) in the borders. The ‘Reds’ are depicted in much simpler terms, with only officers and infantrymen topped by a quartet of infamous leaders (including a weary-looking Stalin).

.The piece was drawn by Vietnam veteran Patrick M. Reynolds (signed, lower right). Published in Arlington, Virginia in 2000 by the Department of Defense 50th Anniversary of the Korean War Commemoration Committee.
