Description

This somewhat convoluted assortment of Biblical passages, family trees, and maps makes a valiant attempt to outline the fundamental tenets of the pseudo-historical belief of British Israelism. In a nutshell, British Israelism taught that the “Anglo-Saxon-Celtic” people were the literal, biological descendants of the Ten Lost Tribes of Israel. They believed that after the Assyrian captivity, these tribes migrated through the Caucasus (hence the term “Caucasian”) and eventually settled in Britain. The House of Windsor could trace its lineage directly to Adam. Through God’s mandate, the British people inherited their Empire.

A key in the lower right helps to explain the composite image, which is comprised of thirty separate elements. A genealogy, numerous Biblical passages, and historical chronologies provide the bulk of the information, though two maps are also included. The first highlights the migrations of the Tribes of Israel, “to their final assembling in the Isles of the North.” The second map outlines the expanse of the British Empire, then near its height in terms of territorial size. An accompanying list of possessions puts Britain first (acquired by the mandate of God).

The chart is credited to M.H. Gayer, O.B.E. and was issued by the Covenant Publishing Company, Ltd. of London in 1928. Printed by The Stanhope Press in Kent, with maps and statistics provided by George Philip & Son and Whitaker’s Almanac, respectively.
