Description

This rare relic from the American postwar occupation of Japan was designed and distributed by the Traffic Passengers Section of the Tokyo Railway Division. Likely hung on a train car, one side of the sign presents a stylized transit map of the Tokyo Metropolitan Area. Government, private companies, and subway lines are noted according to the legend at the bottom. A timetable shows travel times from Tokyo Station, varying from 9 minutes (Shinagawa Station) to over 2 hours (Atsugi Station). Text on the verso identifies the display as ‘Reserved for Allied Military Forces’ in both English and Japanese.
