Description

This charming perspective shows the Grand Canyon and the surrounding area from the edge of the South Rim. Various trails, camp locations, bridges and trading posts are depicted above exaggerated statements describing the canyon as “The Greatest Thing in the World.” At the time of publication, the development of Grand Canyon National Park was still in its early stages – only the Sante Fe railroad (using Pullman cars from Chicago) entered the park, and accommodations for tourists were very sparse. The Fred Harvey Company had exclusive rights to commercial development and designed the famous El Tovar Hotel, seen in the foreground, which remains today as one of the most exclusive resorts in the park.
