Description
“This map shows some sixty solid miles of sundrenched sand, surf, sky and sea oats situated on the shimmering South Carolina shoreline. A shangri-la for all who love the sea. A lazy land of dunes, shells, palmettos, graceful herons, gay dolphins, and delicious escapes from uptiteville.” [Text top center].
The Grand Strand is a spit of land on the Atlantic coast of South Carolina that includes the popular resort town of Myrtle Beach. The tourist area is illustrated here in all of its 1970s techni-color glory.
Cartoonish illustrations of people, attractions, flora, and fauna are interspersed with an interesting mix of typographic labels and annotations. Most are lame jokes or puns, but there are a few historic notes and fun facts thrown in for good measure. Drawn by Jak Smyrl and copywritten in 1972.
