This wonderful promotional map combines the historic and the modern to create an inviting opportunity for the adventurous motorist along Highway 49 in California. The route is nicknamed ‘The Golden Chain’ because it links various locations that played a prominent role during the California Gold Rush.
The primary image includes a detailed road map with illustrated elements highlighting various locations of interest. Distances between points are noted alongside airports, campgrounds, state parks, and ski areas. Vignettes around the edge of the map highlight historic sites and events that took place along the Golden Chain. The verso includes a summary of each county; with various landmarks, accommodations, principal industries, and brief historical notes.
