Description

With George Ferris’s iconic iron wheel dominating the eccentric skyline, this view of the Midway Plaisance captures the more colorful side of the 1893 Columbian Exposition, as opposed to the pristine ‘White City’ found in Jackson Park. Minarets, food vendors, and an early roller coaster are just a few of the other attractions visible within the view.

Just a few miles west of the fair, H.H. Holmes was busy constructing his infamous Murder Castle, and it’s possible he met one of his victims in the Midway Plaisance during the fair.
