This brightly colored world map presents dark undertones, as America’s increasing global obligations during the Cold War was leading to possible conflict with the Soviet Union. Various hues denote political authority, with a legend in the lower right identifying the nations with overseas territorial possessions. The Caribbean, Africa, and the South Pacific are all evident regions of contested dominions.

The map was published in the May 11, 1952 issue of the Chicago Sunday Tribune.
