This cartoon, published in an 1854 issue of London’s Punch magazine, shows Prince Albert (consort of Queen Victoria) sealing the partnership with Emperor Napoleon III over a chilled glass of champagne.
A hypothetical conversation hopes to include their wives in the next visit. In fact, the royal couples exchanged trips to their respective capitals the year after publication.
