Description

This engaging collection of woodcut scenes was originally published as a centerfold in the July 12, 1884 edition of Harper’s Weekly. That same year, the city hosted the Democratic National Convention that nominated the eventual winner of the presidential contest, Grover Cleveland.

A group of seven views, based on illustrations provided by Charles Graham, highlight iconic sites from across the Windy City. Architectural icons like the Interstate Exposition Building (site of the convention) and the new Board of Trade are shown alongside scenes of Lincoln Park and State Street at night.
