Over a year after the death of her father, George VI, Queen Elizabeth II ascended to the throne of the United Kingdom on June 2, 1953. According to the text box at the bottom of this map, issued only a few days before the momentous event, she was in for a long day.
The coronation route is highlighted across the image, with primary streets emphasized and major landmarks such as Westminster Abbey and Buckingham Palace illustrated in full color. Additional scenes shows the resplendent carriage and the official ceremony, as well as a profile of the beautiful Queen herself.
Published in the May 30, 1953 issue of Weekend Picture Magazine. Artist’s signature in the lower right, but illegible. Possibly Aulo Cora?
