Description

This interesting and apparently incomplete map was published by the Board of Home Missions department of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Minneapolis, Minnesota around 1950. The church had recently rebranded itself from the United Norwegian Lutheran Church of America to help with its Americanization after World War II and would evolve further into the American Lutheran Church in 1960.

It’s possible this map was created to track the development of new congregations, though the lack of any visible progress indicates either it wasn’t used, or nobody wanted to join! Decorative pictorial elements and a geographically correct compass rose showing true north complete the image.
